JUNCTION RESTORATION
An unprecedented challenge successfully tackled
Discovery
During the CCTV pipe inspection of a client's new drainage system, a displaced joint between two of their pipes was discovered. The problem -- the defective joint was part of a 30" pipe buried 20' underground and located 80' from the nearest manhole. It was time for Capital City Services to come up with another unique solution.
Planning Ahead
Given the challenging circumstances of this junction restoration, the CCS team opted to first simulate their unprecedented procedure above ground so that they could determine and resolve any potential issues in advance and minimize safety risks to the crew members.
These photos show the mock up that was used for the simulation as well as a cutaway of the mock up after the grout had cured. The video that follows shows how the grout expanded during application and filled gaps in the surrounding rock to seal the void around the displaced joint.
"The best way to ensure success in applying a new process, is by first simulating it."
-Wayne Norman, President of CCS
Project Underway
After the successful simulation, CCS performed the actual junction restoration. Upon viewing this very video that was recorded during the process, the client was extremely impressed with the results. Their Project Manager had actually stated beforehand that it couldn't be done!
"Having the confidence in knowing what to expect, we are extremely pleased with the results of this project - it went just as planned."
-Wayne Norman, President of CCS
