This project involved repairing a lift station.  A lift station (or sewage pump station) is basically a private sewage pumping station designed to deliver wastewater to the city sewage system. 

The need for this type of system is due primarily to gravity, or lack thereof.  Sewer lines are gravity based in order to eliminate the need for costly pumping (and it’s logical).  In certain circumstances, particularly topography; wastewater flows below these city lines and that’s where the lift station pumps the wastewater up and out into the city lines. 

They are expensive pieces of equipment and require periodic maintenance and constant monitoring.
